At Rockville Bank, when we say
“Superior Customer Service”
it’s not some empty promise...
it defines everything we represent.
“A bank is a local asset and we’re going to be here taking care of
things for our customers. We’re adamant about our pledge to remain
independent,” - William McGurk.
Rockville Bank is headquartered in Rockville, Conn.
at 25 Park St. It has approximately 225 employees
who work at 22 locations in 15 towns east and north
of Hartford. William J. McGurk has been its
President and CEO since 1980. McGurk said, “The
bank’s original mission was to help the working
class people achieve their goals of home ownership.”
Its mission statement today is on the back of
McGurk’s and every employee’s business cards,
stating “Our mission is to be Connecticut’s best
community bank by providing superior customer
service to individuals, families, professionals and
businesses in our market areas. We measure our
success in terms of satisfied customers and pledge
to maintain our independence to best serve our
communities.” Rockville Bank is committed to its
independence. In 2005, it sold to the public a 43
percent interest in its mutual holding company to
help it stay that way. “A bank is a local asset and
we’re going to be here taking care of things for our
customers. We’re adamant about our pledge to
remain independent,” said McGurk. Customer
service is a top priority for Rockville Bank.
“Superior customer service is the main thing. It’s not
what you do. It’s how you do it. Customer service -
that’s what really makes the difference. One of the
most important things Rockville Bank does is listen.

listeners. Not tellers SM ,” McGurk stated. He offers a
couple of samples of what he calls “McGurkisms”
that describe the bank’s philosophy. GUSTO means
greet the customer, use their name, smile, thank
them and offer another service. ECHO stands for
every contact has opportunity. McGurk tells his
employees, “I want you to be proud to work at
Rockville Bank.” Strong customer service is
matched by equally robust financial results for the
bank, which is overseen by a board of directors.
Stratospheric growth has come during McGurk’s 28
years at the helm of Rockville Bank. Assets have
grown from $90 million to $1.3 billion. “Asset
quality has been a strength. We’re proud of that,”
said McGurk, whose voice is well known to many
through his local radio ads. The bank has a legal
lending limit of approximately $20 million for
commercial loans. “We can help small businesses
grow and grow along with them. You can go to your
local community bank for all of your financial
needs,” McGurk stated. The future holds strong
promise for Rockville Bank and its mission to provide
superior customer and banking services. Customers
will always come first as the bank maintains its
independence pledge. “We’re staying independent,
and we plan to be here to serve your lifetime
financial service needs,” said McGurk.
