Travelers Championship Co-Charity
Greater Hartford Jaycees
The Greater Hartford Jaycees have been the volunteer team hosting Connecticut's
PGA TOUR event for more than 50 years. Founded in 1944 as part of the
Junior Chamber of Commerce movement, the Greater Hartford Jaycees
brought leadership training and community service to the Hartford area.
42 This is the new era.
As a beneficiary of the Travelers
Championship, the Greater Hartford
Jaycees will use proceeds to serve
numerous, diverse charitable organizations,
as they have in their long-term relationship with
the tournament and the PGA TOUR.
After a turtle race in 1951 had proved to be an
unsuccessful means of fundraising, the Greater
Hartford Jaycees petitioned the PGA TOUR for the
opportunity to host a tournament. In 1952, the
Greater Hartford Jaycees changed Hartford's history
forever with the humble beginnings of a PGA
TOUR event.
Over the years, the Greater Hartford Jaycees and
the tournament have given back more than $25
million to the Greater Hartford community. Today,
the Jaycees run more than 40 community projects
and give funds to the community through the
Greater Hartford Jaycees Foundation. All of these
efforts are made possible through funds raised by
the Travelers Championship. Their efforts of goodwill
impact people of all ages throughout the Greater
Hartford area.
In Project Harvest, the Greater Hartford Jaycees
provide Thanksgiving dinner to more than 3,000
families in need. Come springtime, the Jaycees
deliver Baskets of Joy to children in need of a
brighter Easter holiday. In the Jaycees Playscape
program, the organization constructs new jungle
gyms at local schools at parks. The Greater
Hartford Jaycees also manage a Hugh O’Brien
Youth Leadership Seminar, which provides high
school sophomores an opportunity to participate
in three days of discussion with business, political
and community leaders debating issues. In all of
these projects, the Greater Hartford Jaycees
volunteer to run the entire project from planning to
execution.
The Greater Hartford Jaycees are a premier
membership organization for young men and
women ages 21 through 41 with a focus on
leadership development through community
service. Jaycees programming fosters true
friendship, professional development, personal
growth, networking, and community action. For
