So declared Duke Butler, the TOUR’s former vice president of tournament affairs when the Wachovia
Championship made its auspicious debut in 2003. In its five years, the Wachovia has become one of
the most prestigious events on TOUR, one at which players point each season as one they’d most like
to win.

The History of Quail Hollow
It was once the largest dairy farm in North Carolina. It sprawled across hills and valleys that were virtually
treeless, out well beyond the reach of Charlotte’s suburbs. There wasn’t much around there —
a church, a butcher shop, a sawmill, a turkey farm and a few homes scattered here and there. Today,
almost half a century later, it is Quail Hollow Club, one of the Carolinas’ most highly regarded golf
and social facilities and site of the annual Wachovia Championship, one of the PGA TOUR’s
featured tournaments.
Heavenly Conditions Start at an Ungodly Hour
Adam Slick is a marketing communications manager with Jacobsen, a Textron Inc. company, who
volunteered his time at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., to help the course prepare for last
year’s Wachovia Championship. Jacobsen is the exclusive equipment provider to the Quail Hollow
