ast year, Vijay Singh captured two PGA
TOUR events which moved him to T14 in
all-time victories with 31 wins. It was his
sixth consecutive season with a TOUR
win, second behind Tiger Woods’ 12. Singh’s first
victory of the year came at the Mercedes-Benz
Championship where he won by two strokes. The
three-time major champion earned his 31st career
victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at age 44
years and 24 days. The win tied him with England’s
Harry Cooper for most TOUR wins among international
players. Singh’s total of 19 wins since turning
40 is the most by a player over age 40. Singh was
No. 1 in the FedExCup standings and maintained
that spot into May thanks to a T11 finish at the
World Golf Championships-CA Championship, followed
by T13 finishes at the Masters and the EDS
Byron Nelson Championship. He fell to No. 2,
behind Wachovia winner Tiger Woods, after spending
six weeks at No. 1. Singh entered the Playoffs
for the FedExCup No. 2 behind Woods but slipped
to 10th in the final standings. He finished the
Playoffs with a T7 at THE TOUR Championship. In
2005, Singh defeated Jim Furyk and Sergio Garcia
in a four-hole playoff to claim the Wachovia
Championship.
