ast year, Sergio Garcia birdied four
of his final five holes to post a 6under-par
66 and finish second at
THE PLAYERS Championship, two
strokes behind Phil Mickelson. Garcia held
the lead after the first three rounds of the
British Open, but made a bogey on his 72nd
hole at Carnoustie to finish in a tie with
Padraig Harrington, eventually losing in the
four-hole aggregate playoff. It was his 13th
top-10 in a major, including finishing in the
top five in the last three British Opens. He
competed in all four Playoff events, finishing
ninth at the BMW Championship and fourth
at THE TOUR Championship. Those strong
performances placed him ninth in the
FedExCup standings, earning him a $550,000
bonus. Garcia also made a career-high
$3,721,185 in earnings. Garcia’s last PGA
TOUR and European Tour wins came in 2005
at the Booz Allen Classic and the Omega
European Masters, respectively.
