On behalf of the PGA TOUR, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2008 Wachovia
Championship at Quail Hollow Club.
In just five years, through the support of the Wachovia Corporation, the hospitality of
Johnny Harris and the members of Quail Hollow Club, the Wachovia Championship has become
one of the premier events on the PGA TOUR schedule. The historic golf course is a demanding test
for the players and the fans of Charlotte are treated to a first-class event from start to finish.
This championship would not be possible without the effort and dedication of the volunteers
throughout the year and particularly during championship week. Their service has allowed the
Wachovia Championship to make a substantial impact — more than $7.5 million has been donated
the last five years, including a tournament-record $1.95 million in 2007. A large portion of the
proceeds are designated for Teach for America, an organization made up of top college graduates
who commit to two years teaching in under-resourced public schools and become lifelong leaders
in the pursuit of educational equity. These charitable donations are possible thanks to the support
of tournament sponsor Wachovia along with the effort and dedication of the tournament
volunteers.
The PGA TOUR and its members take great pride in giving back to the communities in which we
play. Charity, in fact, has been a fundamental part of the TOUR since the first donation was made
in 1938. After reaching $1 billion in total charitable donations two years ago, the PGA TOUR has
set a goal of hitting the next billion dollars in 10 years, proving that giving back is indeed the heart
of the PGA TOUR.
The PGA TOUR is proud to be part of the Charlotte community. Thank you for your attendance
and support throughout the last five years and in the future.
I hope that you will enjoy this exciting week of golf.
Sincerely,
Timothy W. Finchem
