With only 107 calories and 6 carbohydrates, Michelob ULTRA Fruit
is the perfect summertime fare for backyard entertaining and al
fresco dinners. Released as a seasonal product last spring, the
three delicious flavors are now available year-round nationwide.
The three pilsner-style beers — Pomegranate Raspberry, Lime Cactus
and Tuscan Orange Grapefruit – are light and refreshing with a subtle hint
of real fruit. Their taste characteristics complement bold ethnic dishes
and lighter fare such as grilled chicken.
According to Brent Wertz, executive chef at Anheuser-Busch’s
Kingsmill Resort & Spa, beer can help the taste of food immensely.
Wertz recommends drinking a beer slowly. “Think about what
you’re tasting. Sample a bite of food. Take another sip. How do the
flavors blend together?”
Ideal food pairings for the three fruit-infused beers varies.
Pomegranate Raspberry pairs nicely with marinated pork and
fresh vegetables. The subtle hint of berry in the beer plays off the
tenderness of the meat and the light carbonation brings out the
flavors in most grilled vegetables.
The Tuscan Orange Grapefruit complements a variety of lighter
foods such as salads and grilled chicken. The tanginess of
grapefruit and clean citrus taste enhances these dishes’ overall
flavor. And the Lime Cactus is best paired with bold ethnic fare
such as a spicy chorizo-based dish or carne asada tacos because
the beer balances the dishes’ heat and brings out the subtle
smokiness. It also pairs well with seafood.
All three brands are brewed using two-row and specialty malts,
natural grains, the choicest hops and natural fruit flavors.
Michelob ULTRA Fruit can be purchased at grocery
and convenience stores in 12-bottle variety packs or
single-flavor six-packs. Brewed at Anheuser-Busch’s Fort
Collins, Colo., brewery, the beers contain 4.2 percent
alcohol by volume (ABV).
